The Traditional Knowledge Digital Library, known as TKDL, refers to an Indian repository of digital knowledge that comprises all traditional knowledge about Ayurveda, medicinal plants, and formulas used in Indian medical science.   • The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) allied in the year 2001.
  • This partnership then worked on digitising more than 145 public domains' work on Sowa Rigpa, Unani, Ayurveda, Siddha, and Yoga into around 35 million documented pages.
  • These have been translated into 5 languages: Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and English.
  • The TKDL includes data related to 12,000 Siddha formulations, 1,000,000 Unani formulations, and 80,000 Ayurvedic formulations.
  • It has also signed many international patents, which include United Kingdom Trademark & Patent Office (UKPTO), the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and the European Patent Office (EPO).
  • In 2006, the project ended, and the Indian Government granted access to the European Patent Office (EPO), Japan, and the United Kingdom.
  • In 2009, an agreement was signed with the European Patent Office (EPO).
  • In 2010, an agreement was signed with Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO)
  • In 2011, an agreement was signed with Intellectual Property Australia (IP Australia) and Japan Patent Office (JPO)
  • In 2014, an agreement was signed with Chile Patent Office (INAPI).
  • In 2015, an agreement was signed with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO)
  • In 2017, an agreement was signed between TKDL and the INDECOPI (Peru).
  • The responsibility of administering the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library was further transferred to the Union Ministry of AYUSH in 2014.
  • In 2008, a new initiative was started to collect data about 1,500 different yoga positions.
  • To get a yoga pose registered, a team of professional yoga practitioners came together with other Ayurveda experts from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). They started to scan old Indian texts such as Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and Hindu epics like Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita.
  • By the year 2009, 1500 asanas were introduced in the TKDL.
