The global climate crisis is a major threat to life on Earth. The Climate Change Performance Index [CCPI] is an independent tool that tracks and monitors the climate protection efforts of 60 nations and the European Union. This annual performance index was first published in 2005.

Climate Change Performance Index [CCPI] 2022 was published in November 2021. The first three positions on this performance report were blank. It simply means none of the countries was good enough in all the index criteria to achieve the top slots in the CCPI rating.

Importance of Climate Change Performance Index [CCPI]

To reduce the global climate crisis, the global leaders adopted an international treaty on climate change in Paris in December 2015, known as the Paris Agreement. As per the treaty, it was agreed to reduce global warming to 1.5°C. The Climate Change Performance Index plays an essential role in updating the implementation phase of the Paris Agreement.

Climate Change Performance Index [CCPI] ensures transparency in climate policy. It provides a reliable means to compare climate protection efforts by various nations and see whether they are making progress or suffering setbacks.
