By Prakhyati Chauhan|Updated : October 25th, 2021

Like last year, the Quantitative techniques section of the CLAT 2023 will also be on the same pattern of the questions. Over the months, we have accustomed ourselves to this pattern, and we will manage to recover from our mistakes during the exam. But still, a lot of students feel pressure and have no time to recover, if they get stuck or make a mistake during exams. This pressure will affect our preparation for the CLAT exam, and we tend to find ourselves struggling the whole year to cope up and stay put in our CLAT preparation.

The first & foremost thing to understand is that you are not alone here! Every aspirant undergoes pressure and feels anxious at some point of time during solving this section.

The trick lies in calming yourself down & keeping moving forward with a positive approach.

Even the greatest of athletes (Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra) feel the weight of performance, so you do not need to be so hard with yourself if you feel the same way sometimes. Take a deep breath and follow the below-given tips to handle pressure.

1. Back to Basics

  • It is always beneficial when you read at zero. It helps you to include everything needed in your test. In this case, it is more important to learn the basics than to start with short strategies. Read before you try.

  • Review everything before proceeding with the analysis. It’s time to remember your school days and read up to 30 tables.

  • Reading tables can be boring or tiring for many of you. So here's how to put one together for use with your home.

  • Remember that only you can help yourself and the best way to learn something is to repeat or review it over and over again so that you can solve the questions in a short time. Now the question is how will you train?

  • We know it's hard to keep track of things to learn, which is why we're here with a solution.

2. Read the Fractions

  • Read all the fractions and equal parts up to 15 percent. The components will find functionality in almost all topics of volume suitability such as Percentage, Profit and Loss, Ratings, DI, etc. You should be familiar with the corresponding percentages and ratios,

  • for example, 50% is 1/2, 25% is 1/4, 12.5% is 1/8, 6.25% is 1/16, and so on.

  • Re-visit the Measurement and Percentage chapter and make sure you know all of these components by heart.

  • Data Interpretation Questions cannot be resolved immediately if you are late in the calculation or do not know the fractions.

  • It is therefore very important to work on improving your math by reading tables, squares, cubes, square roots, and fractions.

  • Fill in the table below as often as the one above and improve your calculation skills.

What about next after the Foundations?

  • Once you are done with tables, squares, cubes, fractions, etc., the next step should be to go ahead with solving DI questions and that and in a timely manner.

  • Make sure otherwise, you accelerate your work to your accuracy and all tests follow the concept of negative marking.

  • Keeping the right speed is no doubt important but it will not help you if you make a mistake with your accuracy. Be sure to try the dose section questions at least 1-1.5 hours regularly.

  • Make it a practice to use the stopwatch whenever you are solving questions about volume appropriateness.

  • Try out the time-tested phase tests (such as 45 minutes, 20 minutes, etc. depending on the test and its phase) and try to solve as many questions as possible in this time frame.

  • Try to do more math mentally. Whenever you try any question, try to read it in your mind first.

  • Use pen and paper only if you find it difficult to calculate mentally. Use the above methods without fail for 20-25 days and you will see a change in your number of attempts.

Don’t Assume

  • See, we all tend to assume certain things about ourselves and fall into the trap of stereotypes such as, Science Math's students are better at mathematics, and many of the students have not touched the Quantitative techniques section for such a long time period.

  • They won’t be able to ace the exam in this section. Steer clear of these assumptions and try to work on fixing the gap instead of just sitting and whining about these things.

Trust Yourself

  • Trust is one of the most difficult things to do when you are dealing with pressure at the time of the exam. Never put yourself down. Instead, you have that kind of confidence & trust in yourself that whatever comes in your way, you’ll deal with it and never let down your preparation.

  • If you feel anxious during the exam, take a deep breath & repeat this to yourself, repeating this will help them play on their own over time. Do not let yourself fall into this vicious loop of self-doubt.

Try and Fail

Do not run away from the struggle. The struggle during your preparation, experiment, and try out new strategies so that you sail smoothly during the final CLAT Exam. Stop questioning yourself. Try things out. It's okay to try and fail. The more you try, the more you’ll find things you’ll learn and the more you’ll know.

Speed it up or slow it down

  • When you feel the pressure is getting to you, do not try and get things done Online Classroom Program quickly. You’ll likely mess it all up in an attempt to speed up yourself, Slow down and take a deep breath.

  • Stare into oblivion & convince yourself that you are able to handle this. Now, refocus and resume! This will help you to relax and have faith in your ability to get through the tough parts.

Take plenty of mocks

  • We have to emphasize the importance of taking the mocks test and sectional test. Mock tests give you a real feel of taking the actual exam and help you get familiar with the exam pattern. You can experiment during the mock test and figure out your weakness and make a strategy for yourself that will help you to make the most out of the time on the entrance exam day.

  • Taking plenty of mock tests and sectional tests will also help you in dealing with stress and the pressure of time management.
