The Union Public Service Commission, UPSC has been authorised to recruit officers for a various administrative role in the Departments under various Ministries. Under the civil services examination, the services are All India Services and Central Services. The All India Services include Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) etc., and the Central Services include Indian Revenue Services, Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IAAS) etc.

UPSC CSE Exam Pattern

UPSC CSE also referred to as the UPSC examination. The exam is conducted in phases – UPSC Prelims and UPSC Mains (Written and Interview).

The UPSC Preliminary examination consists of two objective type papers:

  1. General Studies Paper I
  2. General Studies Paper II (CSAT- Civil Services Aptitude Test)

UPSC IAS Prelim Syllabus

The written part of the UPSC CSE Mains Examination consists of nine papers of subjective nature. Among these two papers are qualifying, and seven other marks are counted, followed by the Interview for the final merit. Candidates very often find the UPSC Syllabus coverage overwhelming due to its vastness. A candidate has to have good command over the concepts from the optional subject and the topics of General Studies as well. Requisites of the examination

  • Any graduate who attained the age of 21 years can appear for the UPSC CSE. The upper age limit to appear in the examination is 32 years. 
  • The number of attempts is restricted to the candidates as per the category- General (6), OBC (9), SC/ST (unlimited until the age of 37 years) and PH candidates (unlimited until the age of 45 years).
