Vocabulary plays a very important role in enhancing your ability to score better in all the law entrance exams.a As you glance through the newspaper every day, you come across a number of new words. Your reading exercise is impeded if you do not understand the meaning of a word, or it's meaning in a given context. Such challenges could be overcome by inculcating a sound habit of reading.   • Pronunciation: churn/ चर्न
  • Part of Speech: Verb
  • Meaning:
    a. (with reference to liquid) move or cause to move about vigorously.
    b. break up the surface of (an area of ground).
  • Synonyms: shake, stir, swirl, agitate
  • Antonym: freeze
  • Usage in a sentence: We stood on the dock and watched the ocean churn.

3. Word: Retain (बनाये रखना)

  • Pronunciation: ri-teyn/ रिटेन
  • Part of Speech: Verb
  • Meaning: continue to have (something); keep possession of.
  • Synonyms: keep, hold, preserve
  • Antonyms: abandon, release
  • Usage in a sentence: The union needs to retain the allegiance of all its members for the strike to succeed.

4. Word: Arch-rival (कट्टर प्रतिद्वंदी)

  • Pronunciation: ahrch-rahy-vuh l/ आर्च- राइवल

  • Meaning: the chief rival of a person, team, or organization.
  • Synonyms: biggest rival, chief rival, greatest rival, opponent, competitor

5. Word: Adversary (प्रतिवादी)

  • Pronunciation: ad-ver-ser-ee / ऐड्वर्सेरी
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning: one's opponent in a contest, conflict, or dispute.
  • Synonyms: opponent, competitor, enemy
  • Antonyms: friend, ally, supporter
  • Usage in a sentence: He saw her as his main adversary within the company.

6. Word: Perception (संवेदन)

  • Pronunciation: per-sep-shuhn/ पर्सेप्शन
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning: the ability to see, hear or become aware of something through the senses.
  • Synonyms: understanding, feeling, awareness
  • Antonyms: misunderstanding, incomprehension
  • Usage in a Sentence: We have to change the public's perception that money is being wasted.

7. Word: Abide (मानना)

    a. accept or act in accordance with (a rule, decision, or recommendation).

8. Word: Delimitation (सीमा-निर्धारण)

  • Pronunciation: dih-lim-i-tey-shion/ डीलिमिटेशन
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning
    a. the action of fixing the boundary or limits of something.
    b. a dividing line or boundary.
  • Synonyms: demarcation, boundary, border, definition
  • Antonyms: affinity, allowance
  • Usage in a sentence: Strict guidelines delimit his responsibilities.

9. Word: Credible (विश्वास करने योग्य)

  • Pronunciationkred-uh-buhl/ क्रेडबल
  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning:
    a. able to be believed; convincing.
    b. capable of persuading people that something will happen or be successful. 
  • Synonyms: believable, plausible, trustworthy, reliable
  • Antonyms: unbelievable, incredible, unreliable
  • Usage in a Sentence: The plot is credible but the characters lack individuality.

10. Word: Complacent (प्रयासहीन)

  • Pronunciation: kuhm-pley-suhnt/ कम्प्लेसन्ट

  • Meaning: showing smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one's achievements.
  • Synonyms: self-satisfied, comfortable, conceited, satisfied, docile

  • Usage in a sentence: The strong economy has made people complacent.
