1. Padmaja Chunduru appointed as MD and CEO of NSDL
- Padmaja Chunduru has been appointed as the Managing Director and Chief executive officer (MD & CEO) of National Securities Depositories (NSDL).
- She succeeded GV Nageswara Rao.
- Prior to this, she served as MD & CEO of Indian Bank between September 2018 and August 2021.
- NSDL is an Indian central securities depository under SEBI.
- There are two depositories of SEBI: NSDL and Central Securities Depositories Ltd (CDSL).
- Headquarters of NSDL: Mumbai.

2. Rebecca V Suchiang appointed as Chief Secretary of Meghalaya
- Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang (1989 batch IAS officer) has taken over as the State Chief Secretary of Meghalaya
- She is the first-ever native female Chief Secretary, appointed by Meghalaya Government.
- She had served in departments such as home, finance, personnel
- She succeeded M.S. Rao, who took charge on 31st December 2019.
- PP Trivedi was the first woman chief secretary of Meghalaya in the late 80s.
- CM of Meghalaya: Conrad Kongkal Sangma.
- Capital of Meghalaya: Shillong.

3. International Day of Older Persons: 1st October
- International Day of Older Persons is observed every year on 1st October to raise awareness about issues affecting the elderly, such as senescence and elder abuse, and appreciate the contributions that older people make to society.
- Theme of International Day of Older Persons 2021: Digital Equity for All Ages
- The day was adopted by UN General Assembly on December 14, 1990 and was first introduced in 1991.

4. Government launches 7th edition of Swachh Survekshan (SS)
- Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has launched 7th consecutive edition of Swachh Survekshan (SS) at New Delhi.
- Driving Philosophy for SS: People First.
- It is the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey and is conducted by Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) covering over 4,000 ULBs.
- SS introduced in 2016 by MoHUA to rank cities on cleanliness parameters in 73 cities.
- Revamped version of Swachhata App was also launched, during the event.

5. Mukesh Ambani tops Hurun India Rich List 2021 for 10th straight year
- Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has topped IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List for the 10th consecutive year with total net worth of Rs 7,18,000 crore.
- Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani is at second spot with net worth of Rs. 5,05,900 crores, followed by Shiv Nadar & family of HCL technologies
- Hurun India Rich List 2021 featured 1,007 individuals across 119 cities and indicated that India has 237 billionaires, compared to 58 last year

6. Wole Soyinka releases Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest People
- Novel titled ‘Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest People on Earth’ has been released.
- It has been authored by Wole Soyinka (Africa’s first Nobel laureate in Literature).
- Book has been published by Bloomsbury India
- He wrote his last novel Season of Anomy in 1973.
- The book is related to political and social corruption.
- It is a stirring call to arms against the abuse of power from one of our fiercest political activists, who also happens to be a global literary giant.
Schemes
7. Government extends ECLGS Scheme till 31st March 2022
- Government has extended the timeline of Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) till 31st March 2022 or till guarantees for an amount of Rs 4.5 lakh crore are issued under scheme, whichever is earlier.
- Last date of disbursement under the scheme has also been extended to 30th June 2022.
- ECLGS was launched as a special scheme in view of COVID-19 to provide 100% guarantee coverage to Banks and NBFCs.
- It is managed by National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Ltd.

8. IFSCA constitutes Expert Committee on Sustainable Finance
- International Financial Services Centers Authority (IFSCA) has constituted an Expert Committee to recommend approach towards Sustainable Finance Hub at IFSC
- It will be chaired by C.K. Mishra
- It consists of total 10 members including chairperson, member secretary
- Committee will study current regulatory practices in Sustainable Finance across major International financial jurisdictions and recommend robust framework to develop world-class sustainable finance hub at IFSC

9. World Vegetarian Day: 1st October
- World Vegetarian Day is observed every year on October 1 globally to raise awareness about ethical, environmental, health, and humanitarian benefits of vegetarian lifestyle.
- The day was initiated by North American Vegetarian Society in Scotland in 1977 during World Vegetarian Congress.
- International Vegetarian Week (IVW) is observed from 1st October to 7th October, annually.

10. Govt approves IPO of ECGC and capital infusion of Rs 4,400 crore to ECGC
- Govt has approved capital infusion of Rs. 4,400 crores to ECGC Ltd for a period of five years, i.e. from FY 2021-2022 to FY 2025- 2026.
- It will improve ECGC’s underwriting capacity by Rs 88,000 crore
- Govt has also approved Initial Public Offer (IPO) on the Stock Exchange of ECGC
- ECGC Limited is a wholly owned CPSE of Government of India.
- It was set up for improving the competitiveness of the exports by providing Credit Risk Insurance and related services for exports

11. RBI takes Indian Overseas Bank out of PCA Framework
- Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) is taken out of PCA (Prompt Corrective Action) by RBI
- Bank was placed under PCA in Oct 2015
- As per the published results for the year ended March 31, 2021, IOB is not in breach of the PCA parameters anymore
- After this, only Mumbai-based Central Bank of India is under PCA regime
- IOB HQs: Chennai
- RBI has specified three parameters for PCA: capital to risk-weighted assets ratio (CRAR), net non-performing assets (NPA) and Return on Assets (RoA).

12. Piramal Group acquires DHFL for Rs 34,250 crore
- Piramal Enterprises has acquired Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) by paying an amount of Rs 34,250 crore.
- This is the first successful resolution of a financial services company under Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
- DHFL is the first financial services firm to go for bankruptcy proceedings. It is a non-deposit-taking housing finance company.
- The creditors of DHFL will recover an aggregate amount of Rs 38,000 crore from the DHFL’s resolution

- First ICD was launched in 2015 by International Coffee Organization.

14. Minister for Labour and Employment launches DigiSaksham
- Minister for Labour and Employment, Bhupender Yadav has launched DigiSaksham, which is a digital skills programme to enhance the employability of rural and semi-urban areas youth by imparting digital skills
- It is an initiative of Ministry of Labour and Microsoft India
- It is a free of cost training programme in digital skills including basic skills as well as advance computing
- Jobseekers can access training through National Career Service (NCS) Portal (www.ncs.gov.in).
