  • Padmaja Chunduru has been appointed as the Managing Director and Chief executive officer (MD & CEO) of National Securities Depositories (NSDL).
  • She succeeded GV Nageswara Rao.
  • Prior to this, she served as MD & CEO of Indian Bank between September 2018 and August 2021.
  • NSDL is an Indian central securities depository under SEBI.
  • There are two depositories of SEBI: NSDL and Central Securities Depositories Ltd (CDSL).
  • Headquarters of NSDL: Mumbai.

2. Rebecca V Suchiang appointed as Chief Secretary of Meghalaya

  • She is the first-ever native female Chief Secretary, appointed by Meghalaya Government.

  • PP Trivedi was the first woman chief secretary of Meghalaya in the late 80s.

7. Government extends ECLGS Scheme till 31st March 2022

  • Government has extended the timeline of Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) till 31st March 2022 or till guarantees for an amount of Rs 4.5 lakh crore are issued under scheme, whichever is earlier.
  • Last date of disbursement under the scheme has also been extended to 30th June 2022.
  • ECLGS was launched as a special scheme in view of COVID-19 to provide 100% guarantee coverage to Banks and NBFCs.
  • It is managed by National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Ltd.

11. RBI takes Indian Overseas Bank out of PCA Framework

  • Bank was placed under PCA in Oct 2015
  • As per the published results for the year ended March 31, 2021, IOB is not in breach of the PCA parameters anymore
  • After this, only Mumbai-based Central Bank of India is under PCA regime
  • IOB HQs: Chennai
  • RBI has specified three parameters for PCA: capital to risk-weighted assets ratio (CRAR), net non-performing assets (NPA) and Return on Assets (RoA).

12. Piramal Group acquires DHFL for Rs 34,250 crore

  • Piramal Enterprises has acquired Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) by paying an amount of Rs 34,250 crore.
  • This is the first successful resolution of a financial services company under Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
  • DHFL is the first financial services firm to go for bankruptcy proceedings. It is a non-deposit-taking housing finance company.
  • The creditors of DHFL will recover an aggregate amount of Rs 38,000 crore from the DHFL’s resolution
