The Mission of One Nation One Standard focuses on creating India as a leader in creating and maintaining global benchmarks for the highest levels of quality standards. While checking the responsibilities of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the Minister of Railway, Commercial Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal emphasises the need for a unified method of standardisation to enhance uniformity within the country to bring uniformity from the global standard point of view.

Why is One Nation One Standard Mission in the news?

Lucknow-based Research Design & Standards Organisation - RDSO, which is responsible for setting standards for the rail sector, is the first national standards body to participate in the central government's One Nation One Standard Mission program.

The Inception of One Nation One Standard Mission

One Nation One Standard Mission is designed by the BIS - the Standard Bureau in September 2019 under the 2016 BIS Act. BIS is the authority that sets standards in India and this initiative of One Nation One Standard Mission standardises the Law for Marking and Quality Certification Activities. The standard mission of one country is to ensure multiple standards of the country to check quality products to come in the line of "One Nation One Standard Mission". The new mission is to assemble such standards and develop a standard template for a particular product instead of setting up multiple institutions.

The purpose of setting those standards and execution is to make quality products available to consumers.

How does the One Nation One Standard Mission work?

To realise the Indian government's vision of "One Nation One Standard Mission", BIS, the national standardisation body, has established a program called "Recognition of SDO".

Need for One Nation One Standard Mission

The strength of a country is often presented by the standards that set them for product and service quality. The government suggests setting Indian criteria according to the world's benchmarks to maintain uniform national standards helping to enforce them for more products. Depending on this step, more foreign products may come to India to abide by the standard of India.
