Immunization is one of the great success stories of the human race. It is a big achievement of global health and development, saving millions from avoidable diseases. Immunization drives have eradicated diseases like smallpox and polio.

All of this makes the Immunization Agenda 2030 so important. This program aims to make immunization accessible to every person in the world. A very challenging goal but critical to protect the vulnerable from avoidable diseases.

The Immunization Agenda 2030 was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) combined with global cooperation. It is one of the most important health care intervention programs of the decade.

Immunization Agenda 2030 Goal

The ambitious goal of the Immunization Agenda 2030 is to make vaccinations accessible so their life-saving impact can be maximized. By 2030, the agenda includes reducing the number of children not receiving vaccinations by half.

The agenda also aims to make 500 under-utilized or newly developed vaccines for developing countries. The Immunization Agenda 2030 will achieve 90% coverage of critical childhood vaccinations if the plans work.

Immunization Agenda 2030 - Plans to Succeed

The Immunization Agenda 2030 is built on seven strategic global and local priorities to reach its goals:

  1. Secure commitment and understand the demand. This pillar will define the required supply to make the vaccinations available.
  2. Equitable distribution of the vaccines irrespective of the affordability of vaccines in the countries. Aim for maximum coverage to meet the goal of 90% coverage for essential vaccinations.
  3. Integrate vaccinations into the regular health care services and make them a part of the entire life course.
  4. Effective handling of disease outbreaks by making the right vaccinations available and efficiently responding to emergencies.
  5. Build and sustain the supply system to meet the global demand.
  6. Fund the right research and innovation to keep up with the changing disease mutations.
  7. Build a robust primary health immunization program embedded into primary health services.

These seven strategic priorities are to be implemented globally, at a country level, and at a local level. The focus of implementation will be to provide equitable opportunities to vaccinate children.
