 The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the Board examinations of 2021 shall be canceled for CLass 12th.

CBSE 12th Board Exams 2021 Cancelled: In view of the ambiguous circumstances due to COVID and the feedback obtained from various stakeholders, it was decided that the Class XII Board Exams would not be held this year. It was also decided that CBSE will take steps to compile the results of class XII students as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.

  • The Board examinations of 2021 will be in the routine written manner and not online, the CBSE affirmed.

  • The dates of examination, though, have not been determined yet, officials said.

  • According to the Ministry of Education, "organizing the examinations is essential to safeguard the development as well as a clearer future of the students".

  • This year, amidst the pandemic and 'new normal' arrangement of things, a wide range of consultations have been ongoing among students, parents, and teachers on the subject of the examinations.

  • From the registration of board exams to classroom functions, everything is being operated virtually.

What Government is Stating?

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a meeting with union ministers, cabinet secretary, and other stakeholders to discuss the situation of Class 12 board exams and review all the possible options on the exam.

  • Students had been campaigning online for the cancellation of CBSE board exams. They are demanding the cancellation of offline papers or a postponement for now. While many suggested replacing upcoming board exams with online assignments, others had demanded that the board exams be held in an online mode.

  • The Prime Minister said that the decision on Class 12 CBSE Exams has been taken in the concern of students. He stated that COVID-19 has affected the academic calendar and the issue of Board Exams has been triggering enormous concern among students, parents, and teachers, which must be placed to an end.

  • The Shiv Sena in Maharashtra had written to the education ministry, requesting the government to develop a national consensus and possibly reschedule Class 10 and 12 CBSE and other board exams.

  • The whole pandemic has created concern and misunderstanding among the students. Hence the preponderance of students is not in approval of organizing the board exams.

  • A few petitions were also filed in the court regarding the CBSE Board exams. Some of them are in favor, while some are against the board exams.
