To stop the degradation of the earth’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature by:
- conserving the world’s biological diversity
- ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable
- promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
Living Planet Report, 2021
- The Living Planet Report is published every 2 years by the World Wide Fund for Nature since 1998.
- It is based on the Living Planet Index and ecological footprint calculations.
- The Report is the world's leading, science-based analysis, on the health of our planet and the impact of human activity.
- According to Living Planet Report 2021, a reduction of 68 % in the global wildlife population between 1970 and 2016 was observed.
- 75 % of the Earth’s ice-free land surface has already been significantly altered by the conversion of pristine habitats into agricultural systems with 85% loss of wetlands
- Highest biodiversity loss due to land use change: Europe and Central Asia
- Largest wildlife population loss: Latin America
- India has lost six plant species.
