The WBPSC is the popular exam among the aspirants. WBPSC conducts examination for the recruitment of West Bengal civil services each year for the post of various grade A and Grade B in the state. Lakhs of aspirants appear for the WBPSC each year for the most coveted positions in the executive level of West Bengal. This exam provides a platform to utilize the knowledge and skills acquired by the aspirants.

WBPCS Exam Pattern 2020

WBPSC Exam conducted into 3 stages, which is mentioned below:

  • Prelims
  • Main
  • Personality Test

Scheme of the Preliminary Examination:

  • It will consist of only one paper, viz., a paper on "General Studies".
  • The paper will be of an objective type consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions.
  • The paper will carry 200 marks and will be of 2 hours 30 minutes duration.
  • The standard of the paper will be of the level of knowledge as expected of a graduate of any faculty of a recognized university.
  • The marks obtained from this exam will not be added to the final result. It is only a screening test to admit students to the mains examination.
  • There shall be negative marking 1/3rd for each wrong answer.
  • The paper will include questions covering the following fields of knowledge:

Scheme of the Main Examination:

  • The Main examination shall consist of six compulsory papers and one optional subject consisting of two paper(Only for a candidate applying for group A and/or B) to be chosen by the candidates from the list of optional subjects. 
  • There will be two papers of the optional subjects of 200 marks each.
  • Each paper, Compulsory or optional, will carry 200 marks and will be of 3 hours duration.
  • Out of six compulsory papers four papers i.e. (i) General studies-I, (ii) General studies-II, (iii) The Constitution of India and Indian Economy including role and functions of Reserve Bank of India and (iv) Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning will be of MCQ type to be answered in OMR answer sheets and remaining two compulsory papers i.e. Paper-I and Paper-II will be of conventional type written examination.

One subjects have to be selected from a list of Optional subjects. Both the papers will be for 3 hours and essay type.

Note- Group ‘A’ & ‘B’: All 6 compulsory papers and one optional subject consisting of two papers.

Group ‘C’ & ‘D’: All 6 compulsory papers.

Personality Test:

All those candidates who qualify the mains examination will be invited for a personality test i.e. the interview.

The final list of recommended aspirants will be based on the total marks obtained in the Main exam and the personality test.
