2. 18th ASEAN-India Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Consultations
Context:
18th ASEAN-India Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Consultations held.
Details:
The meeting was attended by the Economic Ministers of all the 10 ASEAN
Among other things, the ministers actively discussed the early commencement of the ASEAN India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Review.
The Ministers noted status of the scoping exercise of the review and resolved to complete the process expeditiously to make the agreement trade facilitative, user-friendly with contemporary and streamlined customs and regulatory procedures.
About ASEAN India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA):
AITIGA is a free trade agreement between India and the members of the ASEAN.
It came into effect in January 2010.
Under the pact, two trading partners set timelines for eliminating duties on the maximum number of goods traded between the two regions.
