The Australian government has recently commended three Indian women scientists for their unmatched contribution in the field of science. Asha Rao, Devika Patel, and Onisha Patel featured in the list of 60 Superstars of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The Australian Department of Science and Technology recognized their talent when they moved to pursue higher education in Australia.

Reportedly, the Australian government is set to train all three Indian-based acclaimed women for a year to inspire the female girls in India. The department believes that such recognition given to deserving female scientists would bridge the gender gap in STEM, said Dion Pretorius, a Communication Manager at the Department, in an interview.

Asha Rao, a cyber-mathematician, admitted the existence of gender gap in both India and Australia, as her lectures are predominantly attended by boys. She felt that female students do not consider themselves for pursuing STEM due to societal pressure. According to Rao, the deserving women must get the proper visibility of opportunities present around them.

Devika Kamath too believed that a woman has to undergo several hardships and break stereotypes in order to pursue higher education. Born in Coimbatore, Kamath is currently a lecturer at Macquarie University. Her research mainly revolves around the uncertain physics of stars and understanding their creation.

While, a resident of Ahmedabad, Onisha Patel is seeking a cure for many cancers including breast cancer. In order to find a cure, she is understanding the mechanism of proteins inside the human bodies. Patel believes that there is still a need to have more female scientists who can motivate female girls to pursue STEM.

Undoubtedly, this is another major milestone in the history of India. Yet again, women have made the country proud and became the trend-setters of success abroad.
