  • Union Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation

Launched at

  • Swajal pilot project launched at Village Bhikampura, Karauli, Rajasthan.

Funding:

  • 90 % Government
  • 10% Local Community.

Management 

  • The Operations and management of the project will be taken care by the local villagers. 

The budget of the scheme

  • The budget of the project is more than 54.17 lakh rupees.

Aim: -

  • Swajal is a community-owned drinking water programme for sustained drinking water supply.
  • Besides ensuring the availability of clean drinking water to every household round the year, the project would also generate employment.
  • Four reservoirs will be constructed in the village and common tap connection will be given to almost 300 households.

Background: -

  • Bhikhampura village has the scarcity of drinking water and villagers have to walk to at least 3 kilometres to collect it.
  • During the lean season, water is supplied by tankers.
  • The new project will ease the lives of the people and ensure that potable water is available for every individual round the year.

History: -

  • It is the second project under the Swajal Yojana. Prior to this, it has been launched in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.
  • The project derives its name from an old Swajal project, a World Bank project dedicated to rural water and environmental sanitation launched in 1996 in UP.
