Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme

Why in News:

• The Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme has been extended by the Central Government for another five years for the students of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Key Point:

• The Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) was launched in 2011 by the Congress-led UPA government to provide funding to 5,000 meritorious students every year for studies in private and government educational institutions across the country.
• It is implemented by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), with the aim of promoting employment opportunities for the students of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
• The period of the scheme was supposed to end last year, but the central government has extended it for another five years for the benefit of the students.
• In the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme, a provision of 4,500 seats has been made for general education courses (bachelor’s in arts, Commerce, and Science) and 250 seats for engineering and medical degrees.

Country's premier documentary film festival - Mumbai International Film Festival

Why in News:

• The 17th Mumbai International Documentary, Short Film and Animation Film Festival (Mumbai International Film Festival) was organized in Mumbai.

Key Point:

• 808 films from 30 countries have been screened at the Mumbai International Film Festival. In which 102 films (35 International and 67 National) will be screened in the Competition category and 18 films will be shown in the MIFF Prism category.
• The best film of the festival will be given the Golden Conch Award and a prize of ten lakh rupees. Other awards include a cash prize of one to five lakh rupees, silver marbles, a trophy, and a certificate.
• 11 films from Bangladesh have also been included in the Mumbai International Film Festival which will be telecast at the festival.
• The Mumbai International Film Festival can also be viewed online and admission to the festival is free.

• FIEO, through a partnership with Global Linker, has designed and developed the "Indian Business Portal", an international business hub for Indian exporters and overseas buyers.
• Indian Business Portal is a B2B digital marketplace to empower SME exporters, artisans, and farmers to identify new markets for their products and increase their sales globally.
• The Indian business portal aims to help digitize Indian exporters and make them searchable online.
• The Indian business portal will also be helpful in encouraging virtual meetings between buyers and sellers.
• The Indian Business Portal aims to provide a reliable network of Indian exporters to overseas buyers.

Why in News:

• The 2022 International Booker Prize has been awarded for a translated story titled "Tomb of Sand" written by Gitanjali Shree and translated by Daisy Rockwell.

• The book Tomb of Sand is the first book in any Indian language to win the high-profile award, which recognizes novels from around the world that have been translated into English.
• Giving equal recognition to the author and translator, Gitanjali Shree and Rockwell will share the prize money of £50,000.
• The book Tomb of Sand narrates the story of an 80-year-old woman who experiences a deep depression following the death of her husband and overcomes her depression to face the past left behind by her during the partition of Pakistan. decides to leave.
