World Rhino Day is recognised and celebrated every year on September 22. The aim is to create awareness about the five species of the Rhino. These five species are the Javan rhino, Sumatran Rhino, Black Rhino, Greater one-horned Rhino, and White Rhino.
NGOs and other concerned organisations celebrate World Rhino Day by spreading awareness about these creatures and discussing the importance of saving rhinos.
World Rhino Day History
In 2011, a woman named Lisa Jane Campbell sent a letter to a woman named Rhishja, who wanted to see and help the growth of all the five species of rhinos in the world. Due to the love of these two women for the rhinos, World Rhino Day was conceptualised and introduced to people all over the world.
However, there are still a few rhinos left in the world. At present, there are around 100 Sumatran Rhinos left globally, and between 60-and 65 Javan rhinos left. Therefore, there is still a lot more work to do.
