The Rs. 2,989 crore project took 42 months to complete, with 3,400 workers and 250 engineers working 24 hours a day. This huge structure is twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty in the United States.

History of the Statue of Unity

India has a rich cultural heritage of unification in diversity, and its roots are inseparable from the principle of "Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam"; in other words, the entire universe is one family. However, by the time of India's independence in 1947, it was divided into more than 560 princely states. With his firm determination, India's first Deputy Prime Minister, Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was able to transform such imperialism into today's unification. The Indian people will forever appreciate him for his leadership during the freedom struggle and his vision, wisdom, and political spirit in the post-independence era.

His life is an eternal source of inspiration for current and future generations. In this context, his iconic monumental statue - the highest statue of world unification - was set up on his 143rd birthday. This was a homage paid to the icon and became a matter of great pride for the nation.

Significance of the Statue of Unity

The Statue of Unity is the tallest of its kind in the world. It is a huge structure across from the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River and is symbolic of the "Iron Man," who played an important role in the country's unification during and after India's struggle for independence. It reminds the world of the personality of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the core of India's integration as a unified nation.
