The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 undertaken by the Government of India is an authentic and futuristic project. It is moving closer to developing the automobile and travel sector throughout India. It has achieved its brave milestone through its comprehensive plan.

The plan works on an indigenous motive of achieving vehicle pollution and primitive technology by supporting global leadership.

In 2013, the Indian government announced the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020.

The objectives of the National Electric Mission Plan are as follows:

National Electric Mobility Mission Plan Structure

The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan consists of two main bodies, the National Board for Electric Mobility and the National Council for Electric Mobility.

The Council consists of eminent personalities from the field of industry and academics. The Hon'ble Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises chairs the NCEM. It is a 25-member National Board that includes stakeholders from different departments and Central Ministries

The NATRiP Implementation Society (NATIS) will initially service the National Council and National Board, and then the roles get reversed; i.e. National Council and National Board will be serviced by the National Council.

It is a hybrid scheme that employs a variety of policy levers, including:

  • It provides incentives for the purchase of hybrid vehicles
  • The scheme is a flag- bearer in the promotion of electronics, batteries, motors, systems integration, battery management systems, testing infrastructure, and ensuring industry participation
  • Infrastructure advancement for charging incentives for supply
  • Encourage the modification of hybrid kits to on-road vehicles

National Electric Mobility Mission Plan Advancements

  • The 2020 plan proceeds with a financial assessment of Rs. 14000 cr including contribution from industry.
  • A strong policy with strict finances has been chalked which is inspired by the launch of NEMMP-2020 by the Prime Minister of India's
  • The main function is to include appropriate policy and financial support in the form of government approval as a planning scheme and budgetary provisions
  • The scheme was timely launched in 2015-16 to ensure clean and gasoline-free transportation
