The Jnanpith Award is among India's most prestigious literary honours. The Bharatiya Jnanpith awards an author each year for their "great commitment to literature." As of 2022, there are 56 people on the Jnanpith Award Winners List.

Only Indian authors are eligible for the prize, which is granted in the languages listed in the Constitution of India's Eighth Schedule and English.

  • Damodar Mauzo

Damodar Mauzo was born 1 August 1944. He is a Konkani short story writer, reviewer, and screenplay writer. In 2021, he received the Jnanpith Award, and in 1983, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his book Karmelin. In 2011, he received the Vimala V. Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar prestigious award for his book Tsunami Simon.

  • Nilmani Phookan

Nilmani Phookan was born on 10 September 1933. He is an Indian poet and scholar who writes in the Assamese language. His work is portrayed symbolism and is indicative of the category in Assamese literature. It is influenced by French symbolism. Gulapi Jamur Lagna, Surya Henu Nami Ahe Ei Nodiyedi, and Kobita are his best-known pieces.

He was the latest addition to the Jnanpith award 2020 winners list. In 1990, the Government of India bestowed the Padma Shri upon him.

  • Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri

Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri, often known as Akkitham, was an Indian writer and intellectual who published in Malayalam from 18 March 1926 to 15 October 2020. He was recognized for his straightforward writing style, which explored deep love and understanding themes in his writings. Irupatham Noottandinte Ithihas (English: Odyssey of the Twentieth Century), Balidarshanam (English: Bali's Vision), and Nimisha Kshetram were among his most famous works.

  • Amitav Ghosh

Amitav Ghosh was born on 11 July 1956. He is remembered for his historical novels written in English. In 2018, he received India's top literary distinction, the 54th Jnanpith award. Ghosh's ambitious novels explore the essence of national and personal identity, notably among India and Sri Lanka, via intricate narrative tactics. He's also published nonfiction books on imperialism and climate change, among other issues.

  • Krishna Sobti

Krishna Sobti was an Indian Hindi-language published author and essayist who lived from 18 February 1925 to 25 January 2019. In 1980, she received the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for her book Zindaginama, and in 1996, she received the Sahitya Akademi Certificate, the Akademi's highest honour. Her service to Indian literature earned her the Jnanpith Award in 2017.
