The Great Reset Initiative is conceptualized by Klaus Schwab, the Founder and Founding Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The initiative was started based on his belief that the world's economy is in serious trouble.

Schwab believes that the crisis is made worse by a myriad of causes, such as the catastrophic effects on the global population as well as the non-folding technological revolution and the effects of climate change.

Why Great Reset Initiative?

The Financial Times reports that global government debt has already reached the highest level in peaceful times. In many countries, the rate of unemployment is increasing rapidly. The International Monetary Fund predicts that the world's economy will shrink by 3% this year. This is a drop of 6.3 percentage points within four months.

The world must work together, and quickly, to improve all aspects of our societies, economies, and social contracts. Every industry must be transformed. As Klaus Schwab insists, we need a Great Reset of Capitalism. This will have long-lasting consequences for economic growth and public debt.

Great Reset Initiative - Issues discussed

There are 3 crucial issues discussed and covered by the Great Reset initiative -

Reforming capitalism - This calls for practising stakeholder capitalism, which is different from the conventional capitalism concept of making profits for shareholders exclusively.

Climate crisis - It explores public and private partnerships to promote low-carbon and climate-resilient growth.

Global cooperation - Fostering global cooperation is an important and necessary step. The harmony that was a huge part of the liberalization that took place in the 1990s has given way to intense competition in the political, economical, and technological realms.

Major components of the Great Reset Initiative

  1. The first part is focused on steering markets to more equitable results. Governments must implement reforms that encourage equitable outcomes and establish the conditions for an economy that is based on stakeholder participation. Some of the reforms might include the elimination of the carbon fuel subsidy, making changes to the wealth tax, and new rules that govern IP and IP, etc.
  2. The other aspect is investing in projects that promote common goals, like sustainability and equality. This could mean, for example, that we build "green" urban infrastructure and provide incentives to industries to make improvements in terms of environmental, social, as well as governance (ESG) indicators.
  3. The third aspect involves harnessing technological advances from the Fourth Industrial Revolution to improve the public good, especially by tackling social and health challenges.

The Great Reset Initiative - A Conspiracy

There are conspiracy theories that are confused with the Great Reset Initiative. A major one is that the responses to the COVID-19 pandemic by certain world leaders were executed in such a way as to tip the scale to the government's favour, making it easier to bring in a range of socialist, environmental, and authoritarian policies. This theory is referred to as the Great Reset, named after the initiative.

While certain sections of the WEF have supported the Great Reset Initiative, others have rejected it, calling it too vague and lacking clearly defined goals or action points. By and large, however, it remains to be seen what the eventual global response to this initiative will be.
