The Indian government has taken the initiative to serve its nation with the online healthcare facility that is known as eSanjeevani. The ministry of health and family welfare rolled out this scheme in November 2019, claiming that it is the first-ever government initiative to provide online healthcare facilities to people.
This includes two schemes:
eSanjeevani is a doctor-to-doctor telemedicine paradigm that operates under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme of the Indian government, while the eSanjeevani OPD is a government programme focused solely on providing people with free online doctor consultations. The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in Mohali created the eSanjeevani OPD portal and system.
This Telemedicine Service Platform developed by the Indian Government has brought the facility of providing specialised doctor consultation services in different states including Jharkhand, Kerala, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu.
According to the recommendation made by the WHO, the doctor-patient ratio should be 1: 1000 in any country to achieve sustainable health facilities. But in the case of India, the doctor-patient ratio is 1: 1445, which is considered very alarming.
Hence, a Telemedicine Service Platform like eSanjeevani is a great remedy to handle the rush of the healthcare sector. Add to that, remote villagers who suffer due to the unavailability of healthcare facilities can avail themselves of the opportunity of eSanjeevani to sustain better health. This scheme has also ensured a unified flow of healthcare equipment and health professionals across the country.

A Telemedicine Service Platform in India engaged in delivering health-related information is known as eSanjeevani. Despite being a telemedicine Service Platform in India serving the health sector, the basic difference between eSanjeevani and eSanjeevani OPD is that the first one is a doctor-to-doctor telemedicine model that works towards bettering the overall healthcare facility. On the other hand, eSanjeevani OPD is a governmental scheme entirely dedicated to providing online doctor consultations free of cost to patients.
