According to the GATE IN exam pattern, there are two sections in the exam. The General Aptitude has 10 questions, the Engineering Mathematics section has 10 questions and the core subject has a total of 45 questions. The total mark for the exam is 100. GATE Instrumentation Engineering Marking Scheme

As per the official GATE IN exam pattern, the exam has a mixed number of questions of 1 and 2 marks. There is a negative marking of 1/3 marks on the questions of 1 mark and 2/3 marks are deducted on the incorrect answers of 2 marks MCQs. There will be zero marks for unattempted questions. However, there is no negative marking for the incorrect numerical answer-type and multiple-select questions.

GATE IN Exam Pattern FAQs

  • According to the GATE IN exam pattern, there are 65 questions of 100 marks asked in the exam. There are three types of questions asked- Multiple choice, Multiple select, and Numerical answer type questions.

  • For MCQs worth one mark, incorrect attempts will result in a deduction of one-third of the marks, while for MCQs worth two marks, the deduction will be two-third of the marks. Candidates who respond incorrectly to questions of the Numerical Answer Type (NAT) will not lose any marks.

  • According to the GATE IN exam pattern, the sectional weightage is as follows:

    • General Aptitude- 15%
    • Engineering Mathematics- 13%
    • Computer Science Engineering- 72%
  • The GATE IN exam pattern does not include sectional timing. Candidates must show up for the entire three-hour test, which consists of all three portions.

  • According to the GATE IN exam pattern, the duration of the exam is 3 hours. The exam consists of 65 multiple-choice and numerical-type questions worth 100 marks.
