GATE Instrumentation Engineering Application Form

IIT Kanpur will commence the application process for GATE IN 2023 on the official website soon after the release of the official notification. Candidates will be able to apply online for the GATE IN 2023 exam only through the GOAPS official website by filling in the required details and uploading their documents.

GATE IN 2023 Eligibility Criteria

GATE IN eligibility criteria will be released by IIT Kanpur. It includes details about the education qualification, age limit, nationality, number of attempts, and year of graduation. Candidates can take a look at the GATE IN 2023 eligibility criteria given below:

  • Nationality- Candidates residing in India or out of the country are eligible to sit for GATE IN 2023.
  • Age Limit- There is no maximum age limit to appear in the test. Candidates of any age can apply for the exam.
  • Number of Attempts- Candidates can appear in this exam as many times as they want.

GATE IN 2023 Education Qualification

The GATE IN eligibility criteria for educational qualification along with the expected year of completion of the qualifying degree for Indian Nationals is mentioned below. As per the official notification, new changes have been made to the GATE IN eligibility criteria.

  • An applicant studying in the 3rd or higher years of any UG degree is eligible to appear for the examination.
  • Also, candidates who have completed any degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts are eligible to apply.
  • There is no restriction on the nationality for the GATE IN 2023 examination. Candidates of any nationality can opt for the exam and choose their centres accordingly.
  • There is no upper age limit to appear for the GATE IN 2023 examination.
  • There is no age limit to apply for the GATE IN examination. Candidates from any group can apply for the examination.

GATE IN Eligibility Criteria 2023 for International Candidates

The GATE IN eligibility requirements 2023 for International candidates is mentioned below.

  • Nationality- Candidates with the Nationality of Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates are eligible for GATE IN 2023.
  • Academic Qualification- For admission, candidates must qualify a Bachelor’s Degree in the stream of Engineering or a Master’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Age Criteria- From any age, applicants are eligible to apply for GATE IN 2023.
  • Duration of the Program- Candidates need to complete their courses with a duration of 3 years to be eligible for GATE IN 2023.

GATE Instrumentation Engineering Syllabus 2023

The GATE IN syllabus 2023 for the different sections namely, Engineering Mathematics, Electricity & Magnetism, Electrical Circuits and Machines, Signals and Systems, Control Systems, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Measurements, Sensors & Industrial Instrumentation, Communication and Optical Instrumentation, and General Aptitude is given below:

  • Engineering Mathematics- Linear Algebra: Matrix algebra, systems of linear equations, consistency and rank, Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors; Calculus: Mean value theorems, theorems of integral calculus, Numerical Methods: Matrix inversion, solutions of nonlinear algebraic equations, iterative methods for solving differential equations, numerical integration, regression and correlation analysis.

  • Electricity and Magnetism- Coulomb's Law, Electric Field Intensity, Electric Flux Density, Gauss's Law, Divergence, Electric field and potential due to point, line, plane and spherical charge distributions, Effect of dielectric medium, Capacitance of simple configurations, Biot‐Savart’s law, Ampere’s law, Curl, Faraday’s law, Lorentz force, Inductance, Magnetomotive force, Reluctance, Magnetic circuits, Self and Mutual inductance of simple configurations.

  • Electrical Circuits and Machines- Voltage and current sources: independent, dependent, ideal and practical; v-i relationships of resistor, inductor, mutual inductance and capacitor; transient analysis of RLC circuits with dc excitation, Kirchoff’s laws, mesh and nodal analysis, superposition, Thevenin, Norton, maximum power transfer and reciprocity theorems; Types of losses and efficiency calculations of electric machines.

  • Signals and Systems- Periodic, aperiodic and impulse signals; Laplace, Fourier and z-transforms; transfer function, frequency response of first and second order linear time invariant systems, impulse response of systems; convolution, correlation. Discrete time system: impulse response, frequency response, pulse transfer function; DFT and FFT; basics of IIR and FIR filters.

  • Control Systems- Feedback principles, signal flow graphs, transient response, steady-state-errors, Bode plot, phase and gain margins, Routh and Nyquist criteria, root loci, design of lead, lag and lead-lag compensators, state-space representation of systems; time-delay systems; mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic system components, synchro pair, servo and stepper motors, servo valves; on-off, P, P-I, P-I-D, cascade, feedforward, and ratio controllers.

  • Analog Electronics- Characteristics and applications of diode, Zener diode, BJT and MOSFET; small signal analysis of transistor circuits, feedback amplifiers. Characteristics of operational amplifiers; applications of op amps: difference amplifier, adder, subtractor, integrator, differentiator, instrumentation amplifier, precision rectifier, active filters and other circuits. Oscillators, signal generators, voltage controlled oscillators and phase locked loop.

  • Digital Electronics- Combinational logic circuits, minimization of Boolean functions. IC families: TTL and CMOS. Arithmetic circuits, comparators, Schmitt trigger, multi-vibrators, sequential circuits, flip flops, shift registers, timers and counters; sample-and-hold circuit, multiplexer, analog-to digital (successive approximation, integrating, flash and sigma-delta) and digital-to analog converters (weighted R, R-2R ladder and current steering logic) and Characteristics of ADC/ DAC. 

  • Measurements- SI units, systematic and random errors in measurement, expression of uncertainty - accuracy and precision index, propagation of errors. PMMC, MI and dynamometer type instruments; dc potentiometer; oscilloscope, shielding and grounding.

  • Sensors & Industrial Instrumentation- Resistive-, capacitive-, inductive-, piezoelectric-, Hall effect sensors and associated signal conditioning circuits; transducers for industrial instrumentation: displacement (linear and angular), thermistor, pyrometer and semiconductor); liquid level, pH, conductivity and viscosity measurement.

  • Communication and Optical Instrumentation- Amplitude- and frequency modulation and demodulation; Shannon's sampling theorem, pulse code modulation; frequency and time division multiplexing, amplitude-, phase-; interferometer: applications in metrology; basics of fiber optic sensing.

  • General Aptitude- English grammar; Sentence completion, Instructions; Verbal analogies, Word groups; Critical reasoning, Verbal deduction, Numerical computation; Numerical reasoning; Numerical estimation; Data interpretation. 

GATE IN Exam Pattern 2023

It is essential to understand the GATE Instrumentation Engineering exam pattern and selection process. The details of selection criteria and exam pattern are given below. The GATE IN exam pattern 2023 will be released along with the detailed brochure. The exam was a Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of three kinds of questions- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions. GATE IN Admit Card 2023

The GATE IN Admit Card will be released prior to the examination, by the exam conducting authority (IIT Kanpur). Thus, the candidates who applied successfully for the exam will be able to download the GATE IN admit card 2023 from the official GOAPS portal or the official website of the exam conducting body by entering the application ID and password to download the admit card.

GATE Instrumentation Engineering Result 2023

GATE IN 2023 result will be announced by IIT Kanpur on their official website after the successful completion of the examination. Candidates can view their results by entering their Enrolment ID or registered Email ID and GOAPS password. The GATE Instrumentation Engineering Result will contain scores, qualifying marks, All India Rank, and more. Only the aspirants who have qualified in the GATE IN exam would gain access to download their score-card. GATE IN scorecard will remain valid for three years.

GATE IN Counseling Dates

The GATE IN Counseling 2023 will be conducted for GATE-qualified candidates to get offers from PSUs or choose Master's programme institutes.
