key points:

  • The World Bank's Global Findex database surveyed how people in 123 economies use formal and informal financial services such as cards, ATMs, mobile phones, and the Internet.
  • Globally, in 2021, 76 percent of adults had an account with a bank or regulated institution such as a credit union, microfinance institution, or mobile money service provider, according to the report.
  • According to the Global Findex Database 2021, mobile money has become a key enabler of financial inclusion – especially for women.
  • According to the report, India has low access to formal banking and a lack of trust.
  • Drop-in Frauds and Leakage: The transition from cash to biometric smart cards has resulted in a 47% reduction in drop-in frauds in pension payments.

Odisha tops state ranking for implementation of the National Food Security Act

  • The 'State Ranking Index for NFSA 2022' has been released by the Union Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs during a conference of State Food Ministers on 'Food and Nutrition Security of India'.

  • Odisha ranks first in the state rankings, while Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh are ranked second and third respectively.
  • Among the special category states (Northeast states, Himalayan states, and island states), Tripura has been ranked first, while Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim are in second and third places.
  • As per the released index, most of the states and union territories have performed well, and most of the states and union territories have performed well in digitization, Aadhaar seeding, and EPOS installation.
  • The ranking provided by the index will promote healthy competition among states under the NFSA, also known as the Food Act, under which the Center provides highly subsidized food grains to nearly 80 crore people.

  • A centrally sponsored scheme “Mission Vatsalya” i.e., Child Protection Service Scheme was started by the Ministry of Women and Child Development from the year 2009-10 for the welfare and rehabilitation of children.
  • Mission Vatsalya aims at ensuring a healthy and happy childhood for every child in India, providing them opportunities to realize their full potential, supporting development in every field, and creating a sensitive, supportive, and syncretic ecosystem for them. - Set up the system.
  • The main tasks of "Mission Vatsalya" include improving the functioning of constitutional bodies, strengthening the service delivery framework, increasing the standard of institutional care and services, promoting non-institutional community-based care, and providing emergency access training, training, and capacity building.
  • “Mission Vatsalya” will be implemented as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme in accordance with the prescribed cost-sharing ratio between the Center and the State/UT Governments.
