Jauhar Greetings by Indian President

Why in News:

  • The 15th President of India, Draupadi Murmu took over as the President with a Jauhar greeting to the country.

key points:

    • Jauhar, which normally means 'greetings and welcome', is used by tribal communities in Jharkhand and parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
    • The tribal communities are mainly nature worshippers and follow the Sarna Dharma Samhita, although the Sarna religion is not an official religion.
    • There are 32 tribal communities in Jharkhand by which different dialects are spoken, the word Jauhar along with some other words is used for greeting by almost all the community including tribal Christians.

 

  • Jauhar is mainly used by the Santhali, Munda, and Ho communities which share some distinctive similarities, while the Oraon community uses the word 'Jai Dharma' as a greeting in place of Jauhar

GI tag for white onion

  • The white onion of Alibagh, Maharashtra has been given the GI tag for its traditional cultivation and unique taste.

key points:

  • According to the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, a GI tag is equivalent to a trademark in the international market.
  • The GI tag primarily assures the quality and uniqueness of such agricultural, natural, or manufactured products, originating from a specific geographical area and due to which it also includes unique characteristics and qualities.
  • The registration of Geographical Indication or GI Tag is valid for a period of 10 years, but it can be renewed from time to time for an additional period of 10-10 years.
  • In India, the registration of Geographical Indications is regulated by the Geographical Indication of Goods Act, 1999, which came into force in September 2003.
  • Darjeeling tea was first given GI tag in India in the year 2004.

Jharkhand launched Tourism Policy

  • 'Jharkhand Tourism Policy' was launched by the Chief Minister of Jharkhand with the aim of re-establishing the tourism sector in the state.

  • The objective of the Jharkhand Tourism Policy is to promote and renew the tourism sector in Jharkhand.
  • The focus will also be on providing civic amenities and beautification of many places including Parasnath, Deoghar, Itkhori, and Madhuban under the Jharkhand Tourism Policy.

Delimitation into four northeastern states

  • Notice issued by Supreme Court on a petition seeking delimitation in Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur.

key points:

  • As per Section 8A of RPA 1950, the President can order the constitution of the Delimitation Commission in the States of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Manipur.
  • The Delimitation Commission has not been constituted in these four states in the last 51 years due to various concerns.
  • Delimitation is the process of determining the boundaries or boundaries of territorial constituencies in a state having a legislative body.
  • According to the Delimitation Commission Act, 2002, the Delimitation Commission consists of three members, with a serving or retired judge of the Supreme Court as the Chairperson, the Chief Election Commissioner or Election Commissioner, and the Election Commissioner as ex-officio members.
  • The following provisions have been made in the Constitution of India for the constitution and composition of the Delimitation Commission-
    • Under Article 82, Parliament can constitute a Delimitation Commission after every census.
    • Under Article 170, the states are also divided into territorial constituencies according to the Delimitation Act after each census.

Family Courts Amendment Bill, 2022

  • The Family Courts Amendment Bill, 2022 has been passed by the Lok Sabha by voice vote.

key points:

  • The Family Courts Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on July 18, 2022, under which the Family Courts Amendment Bill, 1984 has been amended.
  • The new Act allows state governments to set up family courts, while also empowering the central government to notify the dates for the Act to come into force in various states.
  • The Family Courts Amendment Bill, 2022 recognizes the existence of three Family Courts in Himachal Pradesh and two in Nagaland with retrospective effect.
  • According to the Family Courts Amendment Bill, 2022, the Family Courts at Shimla, Dharamsala, and Mandi in Himachal Pradesh will be valid retrospectively from 15 February 2019 and at Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland from 12 November 2008.
  • The Family Courts Amendment Bill, 2022 provides that all actions taken under the Act in both the States, including the appointment of judges, and orders and judgments passed by family courts, shall also be deemed to be valid retrospectively from these dates.

Green Hydrogen

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) with M/s Greenko ZeroC Private Limited (Greenko) for Green Hydrogen.

key points:

  • The main objective of the agreement signed by ONGC is to jointly explore opportunities in renewable energy, Green Hydrogen, Green Ammonia, and other derivatives of Green Hydrogen in association with M/s Greenko ZeroC Pvt Ltd.
  • This MoU is in line with the National Hydrogen Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India a global green hydrogen hub.
  • The agreement signed between ONGC and Greenko aims to meet India's target of producing 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2030.
  • Green hydrogen is produced by separating hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power.
  • Green hydrogen can be stored for a long time, and the stored hydrogen can be used to produce electricity using fuel cells.
  • India's first 99.99% pure green hydrogen pilot plant was set up at Duliajan in eastern Assam.

  • At the Fleet Awards Ceremony, a total of 21 trophies were presented to meritorious ships representing different dimensions of maritime operations.
  • In Fleet Evening 2022, Annual Awards Best Ship INS Chennai, INS Talwar Best Enthusiast Ship, and INS Aditya Awarded the Best Ship in the Tankers and OPV category.

  • The headquarters of the International Chess Federation is located in Lausanne, Switzerland.
