Tribal Contribution to Freedom Struggle

  • Sworn in as the 15th President of India by Draupadi Murmu, Draupadi Murmu is the country's first tribal Indian President, and during the oath ceremony, Draupadi Murmu reiterated the tribal contribution to the freedom struggle.

  • Addressing the nation after taking the oath, Draupadi Murmu called for four tribal revolutions, about which she said that the tribal contribution to the freedom struggle is commendable.
  • The tribal revolutions called by Draupadi Murmu in her address include-
  1. Santhal Revolution: On June 30, 1855, over 10,000 Santhals were inspired to revolt against the East India Company over harassment by revenue officials, landlords, and corrupt moneylenders by their leaders - Kanho Murmu, Chand Murmu, Bhairab Murmu, and Sidho Murmu did.
  2. Paika Rebellion: The Paika Rebellion of 1817 in Khurda, Odisha is known as the "original" First War of Indian Independence.
  3. Kol Rebellion: The Kol, the tribal community of the Chota Nagpur region, contributed significantly to the revolt against the British in the year 1831.
  4. Bhil Rebellion: After the British incursions into the Bhil region of the Khandesh region of Maharashtra, the tribal community was exploited by the Adivasis under the new rule in the year 1818, leading to a rebellion by the tribal community which was led by their leader Sevaram.

Modhera Sun Temple

  • Modhera Sun Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the solar deity Surya, located in Modhera village in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, India.
  • Modhera Sun Temple is situated on the banks of river Pushpavati, which was built after 1026-27 CE during the reign of Bhima I of the Chalukya dynasty.
  • In front of the Modhera Sun Temple, there is a huge rectangular terraced pond, which is called Surya Kund, and this pond is said to be the grandest temple tank in India.
  • Each year, at the time of the equinox, the sun shines directly in this central temple of the temple, currently, the Modhera Sun Temple is a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India.
  • The Modhera Sun Temple complex comprises three components – the Gudmandapa and Sabhamandapa, the Assembly Hall and Kunda, and the reservoir.
  • The exterior of the hall and pillars in the Modhera Sun Temple are finely carved and there are steps to reach the bottom of the reservoir and several smaller temples.

Family Doctor Project launched by the Andhra Pradesh Government

Lumpy skin disease

  • It is spread by blood-drinking insects, such as some species of flies and mosquitoes, or through ticks.
  • Lumpy skin disease mainly includes fever, discharge of fluid from the eyes and nose, dripping of saliva from the mouth, and blisters on the body.
  • The animal suffering from lumpy skin disease stops eating and faces problems while chewing or eating, resulting in reduced milk production.
  • The lumpy skin disease virus is able to infect humans with direct transmission without the need for an insect vector.

N-treat technology from IIT-Bombay

  • N-treat salt is a new technology developed by IIT-Bombay to help treat Mumbai's sewage.

key points:

  • N-Treat technology is a seven-step process for waste treatment using a screen, gate, silt trap, and coconut fiber screen for filtration and disinfection using sodium hypochlorite.
  • The first phase of the N-treat technology involves screening to prevent the entry of floating objects such as plastic cups, paper utensils, polythene bags, sanitary napkins, or wood.
  • The second phase of the n-treat technique involves the construction of a silt trap, which will help keep sewage clean by creating an inclination and 'parking spot' at the bottom of the drain for sedimentation.
  • The next three phases of the N-Treat technology include the establishment of 'biozones' in the form of coconut fiber curtains that will act as filters and promote the growth of biofilms to help in the decomposition of organic matter.
  • The final stage of sewage treatment involves disinfection using sodium hypochlorite to kill bacteria in the water with the help of N-treat technology.
