  • Alongside the Globoil Oil Summit in Agra, the Asian Palm Oil Alliance had its first general body meeting.
  • One of the top conferences, fairs, and awards for the Globoil edible oil and agri commerce is the Globoil Summit.
  • The Asian Palm Oil Alliance works to increase palm oil consumption in its member nations while defending the commercial and economic interests of palm oil-consuming nations.
  • The Asian Palm Oil Alliance will further broaden its membership to include businesses or trade associations working across the continent to produce or refine palm oil.
  • The vegetable oil that is currently used worldwide most frequently is palm oil.
  • Numerous products, including detergents, plastics, cosmetics, and biofuels, are made with palm oil.
  • Together, Indonesia and Malaysia produce nearly 90% of the world's palm oil, with Indonesia producing the most—more than 45 million tons in 2021.

3-point drop in India's under-5 mortality rate; Biggest fall in UP and Karnataka

  • According to the Sample Registration System (SRS) Statistical Report 2020, India's under-5 mortality rate has come down from 35 per 1,000 live births in the year 2019 to 32 per 1,000 live births in the year 2020.

key points:

  • According to a report, towards achieving the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, the country is expected to make a progressive decline in the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) under 5 Mortality Rate (U5MR) and Neo- Mortality Rate (NMR). 
  • According to the report, there has been a decrease of four points in male U5MR and three points in female U5MR in the same period.
  • As per the report, eleven States and Union Territories (UTs) have already met the SDG target of U5MR, which includes- Kerala (8), Tamil Nadu (13), Delhi (14), Maharashtra (18), Jammu and Kashmir (17), Karnataka (21), Punjab (22), West Bengal (22), Telangana (23), Gujarat (24), and Himachal Pradesh (24).
  • The National Crude Birth Rate (CBR) for 2020 is 19.5, indicating a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from 2019.
  • As per the report, among the larger states/UTs, Kerala (13.2) had the lowest CBR while Bihar (25.5) had the highest. 
  • As per the data, the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) for the country decreased from 2.1 in the year 2019 to 2.0 in the year 2020.
