Burhanpur Country's first Har Ghar Jal District

  • Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh has been declared the first Har Ghar Jal district of the country by the government.

key points:

  • At present, in all 254 villages of the Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh, people have access to clean drinking water through taps.
  • At the time of the launch of the Jal Jeevan Mission on August 15, 2019, only 36.5 percent of households in Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh had tap water available, but through the efforts of Panchayat representatives, Jal Samiti, and district officials, in just 34 months, the district clean water is provided from the tap in all the houses.
  • The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched in the year 2019, aims to ensure the supply of 55 liters of water per person per day to each rural household by the year 2024 through 'Functional Household Tap Connections'.
  • Jal Jeevan Mission was launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
  • Jal Jeevan Mission also aims to ensure joint use of protected water, augmentation of drinking water source, drinking water supply system, gray water treatment, and reuse of water.

Amendment to the Flag Code of India

  • The Flag Code of India has been amended by the government for the purpose of displaying the tricolor in the open and in different houses or buildings day and night.

  • Initially, a provision was made in the Flag Code of India that the flag could be flown in the open only from sunrise to sunset, but in the new amendment, this provision has been abolished by the government.
  • According to the new provision, the public, a private organization or a member of an educational institution has been permitted to hoist the flag, ceremonial or otherwise, on all days and occasions in keeping with the dignity and respect of the national flag.
  • The Flag Code of India was amended earlier on December 30, 2021, to allow the use of polyester for making hand-spun, hand-woven, and machine-made flags, in addition to cotton, wool, silk, and khadi Was.
  • This step has been taken by the government with an aim to further empower the Har GharTiranga initiative being run by the government before the 75th anniversary of Indian independence.

BIS standard for the safety of toys

  • The Bureau of Indian Standards has published 10 Indian Standards on safety aspects of toys related to physical safety, chemical protection, flammability, and electrical safety.

  • Seven Standards are included in the Quality Control Order on 'Safety of Toys', issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards, which has made toys with the ISI mark mandatory for children below the age of 14 years.
  • Presently, no person is permitted to manufacture, import, sell or distribute, store, rent, lease, or exhibit for sale ISI Marked Toys under license from BIS.
  • As per the guidelines, before being licensed, toys must pass stringent tests for various physical, chemical, and electrical safety requirements to ensure that those toys are safe for children.
  • The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) was established as the National Standards Body of India under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act 2016.
