  • A new law, the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill, has been introduced by the Boris Johnson administration aimed at enabling Britain to override the provisions of the Brexit deal relating to the trade arrangement in Northern Ireland.

  • In accordance with the Northern Ireland Protocol, goods arriving in Northern Ireland will be checked at this 'sea border' before entering the island and will continue to comply with EU regulations in the Northern Ireland Product Standards.
  • The main impediment to the UK in the current version of the Northern Ireland Protocol was the creation of "unacceptable barriers" to trade between Great Britain and Northern Ireland within the UK's internal market, which the Protocol seeks to reduce.
  • Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK that shares a land border with the European Union.

  • The production of coarse cereals in India has increased to 17.96 million tons in the year 2020-21 from 14.52 million tons in 2015-16 and the production of millet (pearl millet) also increased to 10.86 million tons in the same period.

  • The powers of the Governor under the Constitution call for a floor test to prove the party's majority in Parliament, possibly if the Shiv Sena loses its majority as chief minister in Maharashtra.

  • Article 174(2)(b) of the Constitution empowers the Governor to dissolve the Assembly on the aid and advice of the Cabinet.
  • Article 174 provides that the Governor shall from time to time summon the House or each House of the State Legislature to meet at such time and place as he thinks fit.
  • However, Article 163 requires the Governor to act on the "aid and advice" of the Cabinet.
  • An exception has also been included in the Constitution for summoning the House, which provides that when it appears that the Chief Minister has lost the majority and the legislative members of the House move a motion of no-confidence against the Chief Minister, The Governor himself can decide on the summoning of the House.
  • In the exercise of his discretionary powers, the actions of the Governor can be challenged in court.

Four new corals recovered from Indian waters

  • Four species of Azoxanthellate corals were recorded for the first time from the waters of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • All four groups of corals belong to the same family Flabellidae.
  • Azooxanthelate corals are a group of corals that do not contain zooxanthellae and obtain nutrition from the capture of various forms of plankton, not from the sun.
  • These groups of corals are found in the deep sea, with most species between 200 m and 1000 m, and they also get a lot of nutrition from shallow coastal waters.

Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee (July 6, 1901 - June 23, 1953)

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi pays tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his death anniversary.
  • Syama Prasad Mookerjee was born on July 6, 1901, in Calcutta.
  • Syama Prasad Mookerjee was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta in the year 1934 and in the year 1944 he was appointed as the President of 'Hindu Mahasabha'.
  • Shyama Prasad Mookerjee was inducted as Minister of Industry and Supplies in the interim government by Pandit Nehru, however, later Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee resigned from this position, and in 1951'Bharatiya Jana Sangh' was established by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee in Delhi.
  • A movement was launched by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee to abolish Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, in which he gave the slogan "Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan".
  • Shyama Prasad Mookerjee died on June 23, 1953.
