  • The abundance of sodium was mapped for the first time in 'The Astrophysical Journal Letters' using the National Space Agency CLASS (Chandrayaan-2 Large Area Soft X-ray Spectrometer).
  • Manufactured at ISRO's UR Rao Satellite Center in Bengaluru, KLASS offers the clean signature of the sodium line for its high sensitivity and performance.
  • According to ISRO, part of the signal may be weakly bound to lunar particles by a thin veneer of sodium atoms, and these sodium atoms can be more easily ejected from the surface by the solar wind or ultraviolet radiation.
