PM Modi to dedicate 2G ethanol plant to the nation in Panipat
Why in News:
- The second generation (2G) ethanol plant constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 900 crore was inaugurated at Panipat, Haryana through video conferencing by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
key points:
- The objective of this project launched by the Prime Minister is in line with the Prime Minister's constant endeavor to make the energy sector more affordable, accessible, efficient, and sustainable.
- Based on state-of-the-art indigenous technology, this project will consume about two lakh tons of rice straw in a year to generate about 30 million liters of ethanol in a whole year.
- The project aims at providing direct employment to the people involved in plant operation as well as indirect employment in the supply chain for rice straw harvesting, handling, storage, etc.
- The scheme will help in reducing greenhouse gases equivalent to emissions of about 3 lakh tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, thereby supplying fuel to about 63,000 cars a year on the country's roads.

CM Yogi launched 'Radio Jaighosh' on Kakori Train Action Anniversary
Why in News:
- "Radio Jaighosh" has been launched by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as part of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark the anniversary of Kakori Train Action.
key points:
- In order to promote the performing arts, regional specialties of Uttar Pradesh, folk arts, and gallantry award recipients, a community radio station has been developed by the state's culture department under which "Radio Jaighosh" is also a part of it.
- “Radio Jaighosh” will be made audible on 107.8 MHz by Sangeet Natak Akademi in Lucknow, in which programs will be broadcast daily from 6 am to 10 pm.
- Radio Jaighosh's mobile application and social media pages have also provided access to the programs.
- The daily radio programs "Parakram" and "Shaurya Nagar" will cover folktales from all 75 districts of the state and will feature brave soldiers from both pre-and post-independence eras as well as unsung heroes on "Radio Jaighosh".
- Along with this, regular shows on education will also be available on "Radio Jaighosh" started by the government.

- Justice Uday Umesh Lalit has been appointed as the 49th Chief Justice of India.

- Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, a judge of the Supreme Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of India by the President in the exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India.
- Earlier in August 2014, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India from the Bar Council.
- Under the provisions of Article 124(2) of the Constitution of India, the judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President after consultation with the Supreme Court and certain judges of the High Courts in the States (as many judges as the President deems fit for the purpose).
- According to the Indian Constitution, the following qualifications are necessary for the Chief Justice-
- He should be a citizen of India.
- He should be a Judge of a High Court for at least 5 years, or he should be an advocate of a High Court or different Courts combined for 10 years, or in the opinion of the President, he should be a respected jurist.
- The Constitution of India does not specify any minimum age for the appointment of a judge.

- Ramadhar Singh, a professor at Ahmedabad University, has been appointed as the first Indian social psychologist on the US Heritage Wall of Fame of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) in the United States.

- Ramadhar Singh is currently working as Professor at Amrit Modi School of Management, Ahmedabad University.
- Ramadhar Singh was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award in Psychological Science on March 25, 2022.
- Prior to this appointment, Prof. Ramadhar Singh served as a member of the Society in the year 1990 and as a Fellow of the Society in the year 1992.
- Professor Singh is a successful researcher in psychology and management who, during the 1980s, transformed the dominant American outlook.
- With an aim to advance psychology as a science in Asia, Prof. Ramadhar Singh has played an important role at the national level through the University Grants Commission (UGC) in India and through the Asian Association of Social Psychology in Asia.
- Internationally, Prof. Ramadhar Singh has served as a Consulting and Associate Editor of several journals and a member of the Advisory Awards Committee of the Association for Psychological Science (APS), US.
- Through his research, Prof. Ramadhar Singh also confirmed the fact how many cognitively rich and dynamic people were in the world.

Indian Army and DFI launch 'Him Drone-a-thon' program
Why in News:
- The Him Drone-a-thon program has been launched by the Indian Army in collaboration with the Drone Federation of India.

- This initiative has been started by the Indian Army in line with self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
- The initiative launched by the Indian Army aims to provide opportunities to the Indian drone ecosystem to develop pioneering drone capabilities to meet the needs of frontline soldiers.
- Under this plan, in the first phase, a provision has been included to develop drones for use in military operations in the Himalayas.
- The Drone Federation of India and the Army Design Bureau have signed an MoU to accelerate drone technology development and indigenization in the drone ecosystem in the country.
- Drones play an important role on the frontline, especially along high-altitude areas, as soldiers face the threat of dropping payloads from unmanned aerial vehicles or supplying arms and ammunition from across the border to anti-national elements.
- Under this scheme, the development of the following types of drones has been included in the first phase-
- Logistics and load-carrying drones in high-altitude areas
- autonomous surveillance or search and rescue drones
- Micro and nano drones to fight in built-up areas.

- Biofuels are essential to reduce dependence on crude oil and ensure a cleaner environment.
- More employment can be created for rural people by the use of biofuels.
- Biofuels are also helpful in reducing carbon emissions because the burning of fossil fuels produces carbon emissions that are highly harmful to our air and environment.
- In the year 1893, on 10 August, the German inventor Sir Rudolf Diesel successfully tested his diesel engine on groundnut oil, every year 10 August is celebrated as World Biofuel Day.
- In India, World Biofuel Day is celebrated annually since 2015 by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.
- In India, three types of biofuels are used Bioethanol, Biodiesel, and Biogas, in which-
- Bioethanol is produced from sugar and starch crops and surplus agricultural waste and biomass.
- Biodiesel is produced from various types of vegetable oil and biomass waste from agricultural farms and forests.
- Biogas is produced through anaerobic digestion of biomass waste and animal waste.

- In order to ensure the safety of lions, the Government of India has initiated several projects to raise public awareness about the threats faced by them, protect their natural habitat, and build more such habitats.
- According to government data, there has been a sharp decline in the number of wild lions in the world, except in Africa.
- India has seen an increase in lion numbers, with the Asiatic lion population steadily increasing after a long period of decline in the Gir forest of Gujarat and the larger Saurashtra protected area.
- Between 2015 and 2020, the lion population in these protected areas increased from 523 to 674.
