The AICTE Lilavati award recognizes AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) approved educational institutes performing remarkably well in the field of technical education. Recently, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank presented the well-deserved winners of the 2020 AICTE Lilavati Awards in New Delhi.

Named after the 12th-century book by the mathematician Bhaskara II, Lilavati, Lilavati Award 2020-21 selected winners based on several themes. These themes include women and adolescent health, environment, sanitation, hygiene, self-defence, rural and urban women innovators, women entrepreneurship, among many others. The selected winners were awarded a certificate and a winning cash prize of 1 Lakh INR. In addition, the first and second runner up receives a cash prize of Rs 75,000, and INR 50,000, respectively. Out of the 456 entries from pan India, this coveted award was finally awarded to six higher education institutions. This year's award was centred around the theme of 'women empowerment.'

  • Women Entrepreneurship

Sona Women Entrepreneurship and Training (SWEAT) or Sona College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, was awarded under the 2020 Lilavati Award under the sub-theme of 'Women Entrepreneurship.'

  • Self-Defence

Under this theme, Paritrana from Saint Joseph's College of Engineering, Tamil Nadu, won this prestigious 2020 Lilavati Award.

  • Literacy and Self-Skills

Bhartiya Vidyapeeth of the Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development, Pune won the 2020 Lilavati Award under the sub-theme 'literacy.'

  • Women Health

The WIT Women Health Coalition (WHC) from Walchand Institute of Technology, Maharashtra, won the 2020 Lilavati Award under the subtheme of 'women's health.'

  • Legal Awareness

Under the sub-theme of 'legal awareness,' Radiant Seetha from the Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, Tamil Nadu, won the award.

  • Sanitation and Hygiene

Another college from Maharashtra, Srimati Kishoritai Bhoyar College of Pharmacy, Nagpur, Maharashtra, won the 2020 Lilavati award under the sub-theme of 'sanitation and hygiene.

AICTE is always committed to raising awareness about the significance of women-oriented issues, such as sanitation, hygiene, nutrition, the welfare of girl children and adolescents. Literacy, skill development, and employment among girls are also equally essential objectives for this committee. This is why the AICTE committee invites institutes, and teams (of students, faculties, or both) from AICTE approved technical institutions annually along with various themes.
