Humankind has been fascinated by stars and space since time immemorial. As a result, a specific branch of natural science called "astronomy" was developed to study celestial objects and phenomena in space. Our curiosity about space has led to many advances in space technology to explore the vastness of the universe and improve our understanding of the cosmos.

International Astronomy Day - Overview

International Astronomy Day is celebrated to generate more awareness about the universe and how we can observe it. On this day, astronomy professionals and enthusiasts share their love and knowledge of stars and space with the common people. The day gives the general public a platform to interact with astronomy professionals and scholars.

Unlike most international days celebrated once a year, International Astronomy Day is celebrated bi-annually, during Spring and Autumn. However, there are no fixed dates for the celebration of International Astronomy Day. Instead, the event is based on lunar influence and is observed on the Saturday closest to the first quarter of the moon.

The event received a remarkable response and was later expanded to other countries.

International Astronomy Day is now celebrated in many countries worldwide. Many organizations associated with astronomy sponsor the event.
