The FIFA world ranking offers a deep insight into the current strength of India's men's and women's national teams.

After winning the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship in 2021, the men's team, led by Captain Sunil Chhetri, secured the 104th position, taking India's rank in football up by three spots. The team defeated Nepal in the SAFF Championship. They've recently performed considerably well under their coach, Igor Stimac, a former football player and Croatian football manager.

On the other hand, the women's team has maintained a consistentranking for the last five years. Under the leadership of former Sweden coach Thomas Dennerby, the Indian women's team aims to rebuild its reputation worldwide by making a mark in the AFC Women's Asian Cup scheduled in January 2022. Decoding India's Football Ranking over the Years

India's rank in football has gone up by a few spots as both the men's and the women's teams have enjoyed an impressive year leading India to victory.

India's Men's Team's World Football Ranking:

Starting in 1995, India's number of international matches gradually increased, and India's rank in footballimproved incrementally but consistently over time. The introduction of Bhaichung Bhutia was another aspect contributing to the upward trend. In March 1995, he made his international debut, and he and Vijayan created one of India's most potent front lines since the golden era of the 1950s and 1960s.

With Bhutia and Vijayan at the helm, India rocketed to 94th place in the FIFA rankings in February 1996, which remains the best Indian football team rating on the FIFA leaderboard to this day.

India's Women's Team's World Football Ranking:

Five countries will qualify for the 2023 World Cup directly from the Asian Cup. The Asian Cup will be held in Mumbai and Pune from 20th January to 4th February. Thomas Dennerby is confident in the Indian women's team reaching the knockout stage and achieving their goal of qualifying for the 2023 FIFA World Cup, thereby improving India's rank in football in the world.
