European Investment Bank (EIB) joins CDRI

  • The European Investment Bank (EIB) joined the Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) coalition aimed at limiting the destruction caused by climate change.

key points:

  • Under the new alliance, the European Investment Bank will work with national governments, multilateral development banks, United Nations agencies, and the private sector with the aim of encouraging the rapid development of infrastructure that is vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters in developing and developed countries. The European Investment Bank will also provide advisory and financial assistance to the member states of Disaster Resilient Infrastructure to deal with climate change and natural disasters.
  • Currently, the European Investment Bank will act as the "EU Climate Bank" with Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and will share knowledge with member nations through its newly deployed development arm - "EIB Global".
  • The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure is a multi-stakeholder global partnership of national governments, United Nations agencies and programs, multilateral development banks and financing mechanisms, the private sector, and knowledge institutions, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India at the United Nations Climate Action Summit on 23 September 2019. was launched during his speech at the conference.
