Border Coordination Conference between India and Bangladesh

  • The Border Coordination Conference between India and Bangladesh has been held in Sylhet.

key points:

  • The Border Coordination Conference is a four-day conference which will conclude on June 2.
  • From the Indian side, the conference was attended by a five-member delegation led by Inspector General of Border Security Force, Sumit Sharan.
  • The Bangladesh delegation is led by Brigadier General Tanveer Ghani Chowdhury, the regional commander of Chittagong.
  • The aim of the conference is to discuss all issues related to border management and security.
  • The goals of the Border Coordination Convention include illegal entry, smuggling of goods including narcotics and women and children, development activities within international borders and increasing trust between the BGB and the BSF.

World Summit on Information Committee (WSIS) Forum 2022

  • The Union Minister of Communications attended the inaugural ceremony of the World Information Society (WSIS) 2022 organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) at its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland from May 30 to June 3, 2022.

  • India has been a member of the International Telecommunication Union since 1869 and has been actively participating in the affairs and activities of the Union.
  • The World Summit on Information Committee Forum 2022 represents the world's largest annual gathering of ICTs for the development community.
  • The Information Committee Forum 2022 was launched in a virtual format from 15 March, with the final week being held physically from 30 May to 3 June 2022 at the International Telecommunication Union Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland with increased remote participation.
  • The theme of the Information Committee Forum 2022 is "ICT for Welfare, Inclusion and Resilience: Information Committee Forum Collaboration to Accelerate Progress on the SDGs".

Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program

  • The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) has been approved by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises for five years till the financial year 2026.

key points:

  • The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program will be continued till the 15th Finance Commission period for five years from 2021-22 to 2025-26 at present.
  • Under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program, the definition of village industries and rural areas has been changed, at present the areas under Panchayati Raj Institutions will be considered rural areas, while the areas under Municipality will be considered urban areas.
  • The prime objective of the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program is to facilitate the creation of employment opportunities for unemployed youth across the country by providing assistance in setting up micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector.
  • The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program was launched in 2008 as a credit-linked subsidy Programme.
  • Any person whose age is more than 18 years can get the benefit of this scheme, under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program, assistance is provided only for the establishment of new units.

Two Day Conference on National Policy on Education

  • A two-day conference of Education Ministers was organized to discuss the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

  • The two-day conference aims to deliberate on the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, skilling in schools and strengthening the education ecosystem in the country with a focus on digital initiatives.
  • Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) and Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-Informatics (BISAG) will also be visited by the ministers involved during the two-day Programme.
  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and State Skill Development Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar, along with education ministers of states and union territories have also been invited to the conference.

MK-I Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missile System

  • Ministry of Defense has signed an agreement with Bharat Dynamic Limited for procurement of Astra Mk-I Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missile System and related equipment for Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.

key points:

  • The agreement is based on staffing requirements issued by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for Beyond Visual Range as well as Close Combat Engagement while reducing dependence on foreign sources.
  • The Astra Mk-I BVR AAM missile is indigenously designed and developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
  • The Astra missile can travel at more than four times the speed of sound and the Astra missile can reach a maximum altitude of 20 km.

Gallantry award

  • Gallantry Awards and Distinguished Service Awards were presented by the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind at the Defense Decoration Ceremony-2022 (Phase II) organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

  • 14 Shaurya Chakras including one Kirti Chakra (posthumously) and eight posthumous at the Defense Decoration Ceremony-2022 (Phase II) organized by President Shri Ram Nath Kovind to personnel of Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and State/UT Police at Rashtrapati Bhavan have been provided.
  • 13 Param Vishisht Seva Medals and 29 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals have also been awarded by the President for distinguished service of exceptional service.

History of Gallantry Awards in India:

  • After independence, the first three gallantry awards Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra and Vir Chakra were instituted by the Government of India on 26 January 1950, with effect from 15 August 1947.
  • Subsequently, three other gallantry awards – Ashoka Chakra Class-I, Ashoka Chakra Class-II and Ashoka Chakra Class-III – were instituted in 1952, which were also deemed to be effective from August 15, 1947.
  • In January 1967, the names of these awards were changed to Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra respectively.

  • Professor Bhim Singh, the supremo of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, has passed away.
  • Prof Bhim Singh was born in August 1941 in the Ramnagar area of ​​Jammu.
  • The Panther’s Party was founded by Prof. Bhim Singh on 23 March 1982 along with his wife Jai Mala and other associates.
  • Bhim Singh served as the President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party for 30 years till 2012 after which he gave this position to his nephew Harsh Dev Singh.
  • He also wrote the book Peace Mission around the world on a motorcycle by Prof. Bhim Singh on travelling the world on a bike, in which he has described the journey of 130 countries.
