To help you get started with your Chemistry revision, we’ve put together some practical tips and tricks that can definitely help you to ace your upcoming Chemistry exam.

1. Eat Healthy, Live Healthy -

First and foremost is health. On top of everything is to keep your body healthy and your mind calm to attempt any exam better. If your body is not healthy, you won't be able to study well and prepare for your exam. Try to follow some routine diet during your board exam so that you won't miss any important nutrient which is much required by your body during exam preparation.

2. Revise Your Concepts by Writing Them -

Written revision is of utmost importance so that none of the concepts slips out of your mind during the examination time. Whenever you finished any topic/chapter just revise it by writing it on a piece of paper, this will boost up your confidence level.

3. Stay Focused and Study with Fun! -

Always be focused on the conceptual information behind anything and its application to understanding it better. In case of Chemistry, try to relate 'Atoms' with the real-life applications and think over it to understand how does it benefit your human life, this way you will increase your learning abilities and will understand the topic much better. Relating Chemistry with your day-to-day life would actually help you to remember the concepts throughout and also understand them better.

4. Use of Chemistry Formula Sheets -

Chemistry formulas and reactions are one of the most difficult things to remember while studying through a book or flipping lessons one by one to find which formula relates to which chapter. Always keep the formula sheet and the revision notes handy for your reference. You can get formula sheets here.

5. Regular Coaching/Classes -

Do not only be dependent on the formula sheet and revision notes for the thorough knowledge taking classes regularly is of utmost importance. Attend your classes or coaching on a regular basis in order to deeply understand the chapters.

6. Make a Habit of Giving Examples -

Some students write very well but forget to include examples in their writing part. For Chemistry it is most important to always give one or two examples via any reaction if there is any possibility. Adding examples in your answers makes it look impressive and more scoring.

7. Chapter Wise Strategies:

  • In the chapter “Chemical Reactions and Equations", the names and equations of the chemical reactions are of high importance.
  • In the second chapter “Acids, Bases and Salts" pH and indicators (litmus-phenolphthalein) are the most important topics to be considered, and to be able to segregate between them is of greatest importance as it would make your concept of Chemistry related to the 11th standard better.
  • If we talk about the next chapter related to "Metals and Nonmetals" Metallurgy-related Q's, Reactivity series, corrosion, alloys are the most important topics to prepare for your Class 10 Chemistry exam.
  • The next chapter is "Carbon and its compounds" Nomenclature, Esterification-saponification, properties of carbon, are highly scoring topics.
  • The last chapter of Class 10 CBSE Chemistry is "Periodic Classification of Elements" in which Atomic number-mass, the tendency of elements across the table is of high importance which makes you well prepared to achieve a high score in your Chemistry exam.

8. Use Some Revision Techniques

One of the most effective ways to maintain your motivation for revising a subject like Chemistry is to use several different approaches. The more variety you have in your revision, the more you get information that you’ll retain for your exam. Here are our top and effective revision techniques:

  • Beat Your Clock – Using Chemistry mock tests, give yourself a time limit for those specific questions. Set a timer in your clock and aim to answer all questions as quickly as you can, while aiming for maximum points. This technique is considered to be good for improving time management skills and getting used to answering questions under pressure.
  • Use Mind Mapping – If you’re a visual learner, you might find mind mapping which can be a useful way to remember important formulas, facts, and equations. Start with a central topic and write out all the important information you know about it. Try doing it from your own memory first, and then consult your notes to fill in any gaps.
  • Use Cue Cards – Write out any formulas or keywords that you think you struggle to remember, write it on to A5 cards. Place them around your bedroom or elsewhere in the home and use them as visual prompts to verbally explain topics. This spontaneous approach can help you to increase your thinking ability.
  • Parent as Teacher –  Ask your family member to choose a topic from your revision notes and ask you a particular question. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a sample exam question, even a general question about a process will help your brain working. Explaining your answer will help to boost your confidence going into the exam, as you’ll realize you know more than you think.

9. Keep Formulas Ready

Always keep the formulas of the mole concept handy as students tend to forget and also get confused to which formula to use and when to apply. Try to make a to-do-list before your exam and don't forget to check it before last night of your Chemistry board exam.

10. Don't Lose Your Confidence

Last but not least, do not think that Chemistry is something you can never excel in. All it takes is daily practice and devotion towards the subject. Stay curious about every phenomenon and ask the mentors to answer your doubts actively. Also, don't forget to stay healthy as “A healthy mind resides in a healthy body”.
