The scientific name of modern man is Homo sapiens. During the past two hundred thousand years, modern humans emerged in Africa. The most successful story is the evolution of man with language skills and self-consciousness. There is more genetic diversity than in the rest of the world in Africa.

Ancestors of both apes and humans were common and modern man evolved from ancestors. The common ancestor of apes and man is considered to be the Dryopithecus. It evolved into Ramapithecus. Later a series of ancestors evolved like Australopithecus, Homo erectus, Homo Habilis, Peking man, Java man, Neanderthal man, Heidelberg man, and lastly Cro-magnon man.

Cro-magnon evolved and became the modern man. The cranial capacity was developed with the evolution of man. The development of tool-making skills, hunting habits, and culture was also observed.
