Mahatma Gandhi famously organised many Satyagraha movements in different places in India. The concept behind Satyagraha was basically the demand for the search for truth and using non-violence to fight for your cause. Therefore, it included persuading the oppressors by appealing to their conscience.

Gandhiji organised the Satyagraha movement in Champaran, Bihar where he convinced the peasants to stand against the oppressive plantation system. Later, he organised a similar satyagraha movement to support the peasants from the Kheda district of Gujarat struggling against crop failure and a plague. Gandhiji strongly believed that the concept of non-violence could unite the country.
