  • The United Nations World Tourism Organization has been celebrating World Tourism Day on September 27 as an international observance since 1980. This date was chosen because on this day in 1970 the UNWTO statutes were approved.
  • The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in world tourism. The objective of this day is to raise awareness about the role that tourism plays in the international community and how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values ​​around the world.

  • On World Tourism Day, UNWTO urges people to highlight the capabilities of tourism. "As we celebrate this day, we express our commitment that the benefits of growing tourism will be felt at all levels of our broad and diverse industry, from the largest airline to the smallest family business," said Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary of the UNWTO.   • UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the tourism sector affects almost every aspect of the global economy and society and allows historically marginalized people and those at risk of being left behind to benefit from development local and direct.
  • "On World Tourism Day we recognize the power and potential of tourism to promote prosperity and drive inclusive sustainable development," he added.

  • This year, the slogan for World Tourism Day is “Tourism for inclusive growth”. Its aim is to help people related to the tourism industry in every possible way.
  • UNWTO has urged businesses, tourists, UN agencies, member states and non-members to "celebrate the unique ability of tourism to ensure that no one is left behind when the world reopens and looks to the future".
