Typically, convex mirrors are preferred as rear view mirrors in vehicles. Why? The answer is simple. A convex mirror provides a wider field of view as compared to concave mirrors. Therefore, it permits the driver to view the traffic behind the vehicle pretty easily.

Answer:

We prefer convex mirrors as rear-view mirrors in vehicles as they provide a wider field of view which makes it easier to view the traffic behind the vehicle

Furthermore, a convex mirror creates an erect and diminished image of the objects in front of it. As the objects get closer to the mirror, the image becomes bigger as well.
