We need democracy because it gives power to the people. A 'democracy' means a system of government which is 'for the people, by the people and of the people'. Therefore it keeps the countrymen as a priority and expects equal contributions from the citizens of the country in its administration. A few points explaining why we need a democracy are as follows:

  • Democracy gives power and rights to the people
  • Promotes equality regardless of colour, caste and religion
  • It helps in the maintenance of law and order
  • Puts a proper system in place with respect to dealing with disagreements.
  • Gives a chance to the citizens to be responsible enough and deal with their mistakes.

Need for a Democracy

Democracy is a government 'for the people' considers their interests as a top priority. It provides equal rights and powers to its citizens, which instils a sense of pride and dignity in them. A democracy promotes secularism and freedom of speech and expression so that everyone's voice is heard and no wrong decisions are made by the government.

Democracy gives the precious right to vote to its citizens, which implies the people can choose the government they want to bring into power. They can choose their leaders and also choose to outvote them if they do not function as promised. Citizens' participation in decision-making is quite important in a democracy.
