Why Do We Need a Government?

We need a government to make decisions about where to build roads and schools, reduce the prices of things when they get too expensive, ways to increase the supply of electricity, take action on many social issues, etc. The government is also responsible for maintaining peaceful relations with other countries along with protecting the boundaries of the country.

What is Government and Its Function?

A body whose leaders are elected by the people to exercise power to make and enforce laws is called government. Its basic functions are maintaining order, providing economic security, providing leadership, providing national security, etc. The other functions of government are:

  • insure domestic tranquility
  • establish justice
  • form a more perfect union
  • provide for the common defence
  • secure liberty
  • promote the general welfare, etc.
