Mitochondria are called the powerhouse of cells as the whole cell and body obtain energy because of it. In the cytoplasm of the cell, mitochondria are double-membrane-bound semiautonomous organelles that have their own ribosomes and genetic material. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is produced from the meal using the proteins that are created by the proteins in the mitochondria.
