Garibi Hatao Slogan
The Garibi Hatao Desh Bachao was the theme and slogan of Indira Gandhi’s 1971 election campaign. The slogan proposed anti-poverty programs that were designed to give Indira Gandhi independent national support based on rural and urban poor. It was part of the 5th Five-Year Plan and was launched by D.D. Dhar to achieve two main objectives viz, ‘removal of poverty (Garibi Hatao) and ‘attainment of self-reliance’, through the promotion of a high growth rate, better income distribution, and very significant growth in the domestic rate of savings.
