(A) Lavoisier

(B) J.J Thompson

(C) Chadwick

(D) Sorensen

Sorensen discovered pH scale. Scientist from the Netherlands named Sorensen introduced pH for the first time. Potential of hydrogen, or pH, refers to the quantity of hydrogen ions present in a solution. The pH scale goes from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral and anything higher or lower being acidic.

pH scale invented by Sorensen

Danish-born S. P. L. Srensen was born in Havrebjerg in 1868. He started his studies at the University of Copenhagen when he was 18 years old. He was a farmer’s son. He first intended to pursue a career in medicine, but after consulting with scientist S. M. Jrgensen, changed his mind.

He assisted with a geological survey of Denmark, worked as a consultant for the Royal Naval Dockyard, and assisted in chemistry at the Danish Polytechnic Institute’s lab while pursuing his doctorate.

He had two marriages. Margrethe Hyrup Srensen, who assisted him in his research, was his second wife.

pH scale properties

  1. The pH scale is very easy to use. Odd expressions, as 1.24 × 10-4, are reduced to a single value of 3.89 using this scale.
  2. This scale has a huge variety of [H+][H+].
  3. A linear scale is created by expanding the 0–1 scale. For instance, the pH scale similarly expands from a small scale to a huge scale.
  4. The pH scale really has positive values since the scale uses a negative log of [H+][H+]. The [H+][H+] will be smaller if the pH is high, it should be noted.

Summary:

Who discovered pH scale? (A) Lavoisier (B) J.J Thompson (C) Chadwick (D) Sorensen

pH scale was invented by Sorensen. pH was first introduced by Sorensen, a scientist from the Netherlands. There are no lower or higher limits to the pH range. This is so because H+ concentration may be determined by looking at the pH.
