Who was responsible for the Abolition of the Dual Government System?
Warren Hastings abolished the dual system of government in Bengal in 1772. This led to the Bengal administration moving into the hands of the British East India Company. The dual system of government was introduced by Robert Clive.
Earlier, the Bengal administration was divided into two groups, Nizamat, and Diwani. The Niazamat was handled by the Nizams, and the Diwani was controlled by the British government.
Post-abolition, the Nizamat was taken away from the Nizams, and they were only left as pensioners under the East India Company.
