Assam is the largest producer of Tea in India. West Bengal is the second largest tea producer state. Assam alone produces more than half of India’s tea production. Assam’s estimated annual tea production is around 630-700 million kg. Assam has the largest contiguous tea-growing area in the world. In Assam, tea is grown at an altitude of 45 to 60 meters above sea level.
The tea plant requires a temperature of 20°C to 30°C. Tea grows well in areas with rainfall between 150-200 cm. The soil should be well drained.
