Asthma is Not a Bacterial Disease. Any illness that is caused by bacteria is known as bacterial disease. It causes disease by excreting or secreting toxins which are released when the bacteria disintegrate. The bacteria that cause infections include Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, and E. coli. Asthma is caused by the narrowing of airways and not any bacteria, hence, it is not a bacterial disease.

Bacterial Disease

Bacterial diseases are spread by Coughing and sneezing, Contact with contaminated surfaces, food, and water, Contact with infected people, and Contact with infected creatures, including pets, livestock, and insects such as fleas and ticks, etc.

Bacteria cause acute infections, which are short-lived. The bacterial disease can cause mild, moderate, and severe diseases. Some bacteria help in food digestion. Bacteria also destroy disease-causing microbes, fight cancer cells, and provide essential nutrients.

Types of Bacteria

Following are the different types of Bacteria:

  • Cocci: Its shape is like a sphere with a diameter of around 0.001mm. They group themselves in a range of ways, like in long lines, pairs, or tight clusters. Examples of diseases caused by cocci bacteria include boils caused by Staphylococci and gonorrhea caused by Gonococci.
  • Bacilli: It is a rod-like structure with a length of around 0.03mm. Diseases like typhoid and cystitis are caused by bacilli bacteria.
  • Vibrio: It is shaped like a comma. Vibrio Bacteria causes cholera, characterized by severe diarrhea and dehydration.

Some bacteria can actually help in food digestion and even destroy other disease-causing microbes.
