About Tribes in India
The total number of tribal communities recognized in India is sixty-two. Odisha is the state with the highest tribal population. In contrast, the states like Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Puducherry have no tribal population.
There are two types of tribes based on positive characteristics namely permanent traits and acquired traits. The characteristics of permanent traits are they include language, region, physical characteristics, and ecological habitat. On the other hand, acquired traits are classified based on the mode of livelihood, the extent of incorporation into Hindu society, or a combination of both.
